German Air Force (Luftwaffe) EF2000 from JG73 'Steinhoff' participating in Exercise Cobra Warrior based out of RAF Coningsby in September 2019. JG used to stand for JagdGeschwader or 'Fighter Wing'.
JG73's full title is Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader (Tactical Air Force Wing) 73 "Steinhoff". JG73 is based at Rostock in North Eastern Germany, at Rostock-Laage airport. It's roles are primarily air defence and training on the Typhoon. JG73 is named after Johannes 'Macky' Steinhoff who was a German Air Force General and was a fighter ace during the 2nd World War; indeed he was unusual in that he was one of a very few Luftwaffe pilots who flew operationally throughout the War but who survived to tell the tale. He was officially credited with 176 victories, and was one of the highest-scoring pilots of the conflict. .
