She returned to the UK in 1954 and was retired to gate guarding duties at RAF West Malling (1957-60), and RAF LEuchars (1966-75). In 1967 she was moved to RAF Henlow and in 1968 was used as a static aircraft in the film 'The Battle of Britain'. In 1975-1980 PS915 was at RAF Coningsby, being employed as an engine test airframe by the BBMF. She spent some time up to 1984 as gate guardian at RAF Brawdy, being transferred to the BBMF in 1984, going straight to Samlesbury for restoration and refurbishment to flying condition by British Aerospace. Her first flight post restoration was in November 1986. In 1987 she was modified with a Griffon 58 engine. She currently carries the markings of PS888 of 81 Squadron based at Seletar, Singapore, during the Malayan Emergency which conducted the last operational RAF Spitfire sortie on 1 April 1954, photographing communist guerrilla hideouts over an area of jungle in Johore. The ground crew painted the inscription "The Last!" on PS 915's left engine cowling.
